100 + Women Who Care DSM
The 100+ Women Who Care DSM was formed in 2010 by a group of women from the Des Moines area. Four times a year we come together to hear presentations from our members on impactful organizations. We vote to select one charity and pool our individual donations to make a large financial impact for the chosen organization. Raising an average of $10,000 per quarter, as of November 2023, we have raised over $734,000 to support local charities!
HISTORY
100 Women Who Care was started in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan as a simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local causes. Her group of 100 women, at their first one-hour meeting, each wrote a $100 check directly to a charity. In one hour the group raised $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city. Karen’s simple, powerful and impactful concept has inspired a worldwide grassroots effort of giving. Today, more than 350 chapters are making a huge impact in local communities around the world. The Des Moines chapter was founded by Sue Kenny, Liz Kennedy, and Dotty Thurston.
